To encapsulate the expressive power of the inner universes of the painter Francesco Sandirocco in just a few lines is like attempting to explain infinity after having visited it. Yet it seems that no man or woman will ever truly be able to communicate such an experience, since the apparent limits of our bodies still prevent us from doing so. These are the very same limits that define the entire nature of matter, which takes visible form only when it interacts with human beings through their senses.
Within this context, Francesco Sandirocco accomplishes something extraordinary: through his works, he succeeds in placing himself — and us — in relation to that “apparent” finitude and the unfathomable. His creations on canvas are reflections of what he “sees”, as he manages to tear apart, with the eye of the mind, the veil that stands between the depths of the insurmountable and our sensory understanding of the world.
The artist therefore sees in our place. His is an enlightened gaze, suspended in a state of grace that grants him the privilege — and torment — of being the involuntary witness to a dimension impossible to represent in all its power and enigmatic nature. And yet, despite this insurmountable obstacle, it is precisely on this plane that Sandirocco’s creative alchemy reveals itself, offering us magnificent pictorial works that, like ancestral gateways, invite us to enter new and fertile states of consciousness.
